Overview

Modules are separate applications that are designed to help enhance your website. Modules can range from a simple blog to a picture gallery to an online shopping cart. They are able to be installed on the system level as well as the website level. Any module installed on the system level is made available to all the websites within Splash Frog, whereas if installed on the website level those modules are only available to that particular website.

Side Modules

A side module is an extension of a module that is typically shown throughout the website. These are developed and are implemented by the developer of the module itself.

Example: If you have a module that is a blog, the blog entries and comments that are shown in the content area of your website would be considered the "Main" Module. Then you may have something like the last 5 blog entry titles just below your menu. Those titles would be considered a "Side" Module.

Accessing the Module

To access the module and use it through the Splash Frog Control Panel, first goto the website you wish to use the module on. Click on the Module tab. If the module you want to use is not installed you will first need to install the module. If you have administrative privileges to have access to the module you will see it listed out. Click on the module name or icon and you will now be within that module's control area.

Installing a Module

Installing a Module

Installing a module is relatively easy. After you click the "Install a Module", select the module's .zip file, and then click the "Create" button. The system will then verify that what you uploaded is a .zip file, and attempt to run the Linux Execute Command unzip. If your FTP account is restricted in permissions, or your Linux server does not have the unzip package installed, or you are running another kind of server other than Linux (Example: Microsoft's IIS Server), then this method will not work for you. Instead, you will have to manually unzip the the template locally, and then manually add it to the system or website.

If you have to manually install the module, unzip the file and you will have to follow any instructions packaged with the module. Typically, you will have to upload the module into a folder within the Splash Frog's module folder, and run an install script.

If you are installing a module on the website level, you also have the option of selecting a system module to install as well. Simply select the module that is available to you within the dropdown menu and click the "Create" button. The system will then copy the files and setup any database information needed for that module onto your website.

Note: If you do install a system-installed module, you will not be able to update the module on the website level. That module must be updated on the system level and then it will have to be pushed out to the websites that have that module installed on them.
